Even if you don’t know wrestling, you probably know Chris Jericho. He’s an absolute superstar, appearing in movies (like Kevin Smith‘s JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT) and even hosting his own podcasts. Above everything else, though, he’s a damn good wrestler. This is probably why he is AEW’s first AEW World Champion.
Chris Jericho is More Than Le Champion
Jericho is a master at taking something seemingly innocuous and making is an icon. He did it before with a clipboard, and now he’s doing it with some “bubbly” and a fun nickname. It’s a fun skill to have, and he told us about how he can pass that on to some of the newer wrestlers in AEW.
At the end of the day, though, Jericho is more concerned with being part of a great wrestling company than all the gimmicks — even his championship. When we asked him about the highlight of his AEW career so far, he mentioned his first show in Las Vegas and the premiere on AEW Dynamite on TNT. To him, the energy, excitement, and feeling of accomplishment is superior to everything else.
We did also mention him losing the title right after winning it. While he says that no one really knows the full story, he insists that is was “legit stolen.” Watch the video above for his full response to that.
In person, Jericho is powerful, funny, charming, and generous with his time. He’s also always on. He’s one of the best in the business for a reason, after all. It’s pretty remarkable to watch him work, in the ring and outside of it. This is especially true now that he’s doing it in a way that he finds preferable to some experiences he’s had in the past.
